Very disappointing stay cleanliness, maintenance and suitability issues We stayed at Evelyns Retreat from 24th29th August 2026 and paid 643 for five nights. Although we absolutely loved North Wales itself, unfortunately the accommodation was a major disappointment. On arrival, we found a black hair in the centre of the bed, black mould around the shower door and shower heads, crumbs throughout the sofa, a very dirty oven, dirty pans and cutlery, a dirty fridge with an unpleasant smell, chewing gum stuck to the decking and a dirty, stained duvet. The double bed was also badly broken and severely sunken in the middle, resulting in both of us having very poor nights' sleep. When we lifted the mattress, we found the middle support bar was broken and a plastic crate appeared to have been placed underneath it for support. There was also dust, hair and rubbish underneath the bed. We later found reviews from previous years mentioning problems with the same bed, which was particularly concerning. A baby mattress had also been specifically requested in advance but was not provided. We therefore had to use sofa cushions for our oneyearold child to sleep on, which we did not consider acceptable. Another issue was a cat repeatedly entering the property through a window. It ate food we had left to cool and, on one occasion, was lying on the sofa next to our oneyearold child. This was especially concerning as I am allergic to cats. There was also cat faeces throughout the car park. We appreciate that no holiday accommodation is perfect and that occasional minor issues can happen. However, the sheer number of cleanliness, hygiene, maintenance and suitability problems we experienced was far beyond what we would expect from accommodation costing 643 for five nights. We didn't raise the issues during our stay because the trip was intended to celebrate my partner's birthday, and we didn't want our holiday to become focused on dealing with problems that should have been addressed before our arrival. We have raised our concerns directly with the accommodation provider and UK Lodge Breaks and are hoping they will take the issues seriously. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we would not stay here again or recommend Evelyn's Retreat to families with young children.

Fabulous place, peaceful and quiet. Please do not hesitate if you are thinking about booking

We spent a lovely weekend that the retreat cabin. It was clean and comfortable in a nice peaceful setting. Sara was extremely accommodating helping us move timings. The hot tub was a good way to relax in the evenings. The only recommendation was it maybe nicer if there was a privacy screen around the hot tube as you are over looked by the cottage next door but overall it is a great place to get away and relax.

We had a lovely time at the cabin. It was in a beautiful place with no sound around us. It was very comfortable and the underfloor heating was great. I would definitely stay again. The only problem we had was all the knifes seemed to be very blunt and i had trouble cutting meats and vegetables.

Loved the property. Had everything we needed. Beautiful area within easy reach of great places. Hot tub perfect. Watched red kite flying over us at night and feeding in a tree opposite . Surrounded by fields of sheep the silence was heavenly. Can definitely recommend

On arrival to the cabin we were both very happy. The decorstyle of the place was just lovely, what we wanted. Everything we needed was included in the cabin. The views from the decked area and hot tub were just perfect and not really shown on the website photos. My suggestion for improvement would be a screen next to the hot tub for a little more privacy from the cottage, otherwise, just perfect for a quiet relaxing break. Thank you

Been here twice now, second time with our dog and love it Need a car for the 10min drive as it will be a 2hour walk recommended Views are beautiful, cute towns with amazing vintage shops Just love the area, the hot tub is amazing, selection on board games and the ping pong table with now a big field at the back to let the dog loose Fully recommend this place, if you like that small cabin vibe with everything within range and just a cozy feel We first chose it for the kitchen and hot tub and now it's our favourite place to go on the edge of summer There are wasps though, so if you have a fobia my partner does then prewarning Otherwise, go! !

Had a lovely relaxing 3 night stay, very peaceful just what we needed. Hot tub was amazing. Everything we needed was provided including fresh milk, shortbread and a tasty bottle of red wine on arrival. Luna dog had a fab time watching the sheep & lambs and loved walking on the field at the back she took a sneaky dip in the stream too. Owners were very friendly and recommended a few places we could go that were dog friendly. Being picky we would recommend a curtainblind for the front door we put our own blanket over it at night the hot tub felt exposed to the neighbouring cottage as it only has short glass panels around, so possibly a taller fence around the hot tub part of the decked area. maybe look at the mattress as it seemed to dip in the middle so you rolled together Overall a lovely little, peaceful break

An excellent and comfortable stay. Very impressed with the standard of all furnishings, comfy bed, nice shower. Jaquzzi was the perfect way to unwind after climbing Snowdon.

We had a wonderful relaxing break at the cabin. It was just what we needed and the location was perfect. It is just out of the way of the hustle and bustle if you want to shut yourself away & chill but also Llangollen & its amenities are very accessible if you wish to stretch your legs and explore. The river is truly beautiful and the local shops makes you feel like youre on holiday. We visited further afield visiting Betwsycoed, Conwy & Llandudno, would recommended all three places to truly see some of the beauties Wales has to offer. The aquaduct locally is also a wonderful sight to walk to and drive by. The horseshoe pass was an experience but worth it to see the breathtaking views. The bed was very comfortable, couchliving area were comfortable to sit and relax of an evening. We made use of the kitchen and cooked some meals aswell as trying out the local restaurantstakeaways. We used the hot tub every evening the view from it is truly lovely especially under the stars. We used the table tennis facilities in the garage and there were plenty of games in the cupboard for us to use. The hot tub was easy to use and has cushioned steps making it very accessible. It is secluded or doesnt have anything around it to cover it up from the other house on site as Id read on some other reviews but that really didnt bother us as the other property does have something on place to cover their patio space. Would definitely recommend the Corn Mill restaurant, perfect for us sitting outside with our dog. Nemo fish bar was great for fish & chips during the day. We travelled a bit further for an Indian takeaway in Chirk but it was still perfectly hot when we arrived back 20 minutes later. We took our dog and the communal space between the cabin and the house was perfect for her to explore and sniff. Felt very secure with the fencing and the gate closed at all times, she was able to mooch about and still be completely safe. Recommendations If planning on using the hot tub every evening like we did, maybe take an extra towel aside from your showerbath towel as we struggled to get ours dry because of frequent use. Probably could always ask the owner for additional towels or to use the dryer on site. Make sure you definitely read the leaflets provided about the rubbish and recycling rules so you can abide by them. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will definitely return again in the future.

Honestly not a bad word to say about this place, had the best experience from start to finish for comfort! Me and my partner were shocked on arrival to the beautiful scenes that surround this cabin as theyre not displayed in the pictures but wow! 100 well be returning to this cabin! Beautiful place to stay, we had a wonderful related stay. Well equipped and very cosy little cabin.

We had a lovely time at Evelyn's Cabin, beautiful views, lovely hot tub, near by loads of beautiful places. The only reason I put 4 as we were not provided with much in regards to amenities. One toilet roll so had to buy more, very litte washing up liquid, pretty much run out. There was also mention to a dishwasher which we didn't have. Coming away these are the things people don't think to bring so definitely would go a long way to stock these items. But would definitely recommend!

A lovely cabin with great facilities and a wonderful setting. Very comfortable and cute, hot tub was fabulous after a day out walking.

It was a really pleasant stay. The Retreat is a high quality cabin offering lots of room in a relatively compact package. Everything was provided, and the hot tub made for a relaxing stay. The weather was awful, but we didn't feel cooped up when staying there.

Lovely, we really enjoyed our stay. Cabin was just perfect for our needs. Hot Tub was a bonus. Owners were lovely too with a welcome gift of wine and home made Brownies thank you We will definitely return when looking for a place to stay near Llangollen .

Every on one did us good had a relaxing time

The cabin is lovely and the views are stunning! We had a delightful break, and would recommend wholeheartedly! Only marred slightly by someone presumably the owner but he didn't introduce so... cleaning out the hot tub at 8 o'clock in the morning of our departure day. The cabin is east facing, so lovely sunrises, and we'd got into the habit of not shutting the blind in the kitchen area which looks out over the deck so we could wake with the morning sun. To have someone rattling around out there whist we were still in bed felt a bit off. As it was, we needed to pack but he wasn't to know that we hadn't done that the night before and had a morning dip in the tub planned before we left... Oh, and the fridge is really noisy when the compressor kicks in. Through the night it's a nuisance seeing as it's about 10 feet from the end of the bed. Not a complaint as such, because that's what fridges do. But light sleepers might find it disturbs their nights...

Highly enjoyed our relaxing week away At Evelyns retreat, a real home from home, everything you require under one roof, the hot tub was amazing in the evenings, even in the rain or snow. Such a beautiful area, enjoyed many long dog walks in the hills. We did not want to leave.

Had a brilliant stay could not fault anything very modern and comfortable. We loved the hot tub went in it everyday even despite the weather .We stayed there for a week with our dog we had really bad snow and could not move our car the owner was very helpful he went shop for us and even said we could stay longer if we could not move the car but we did manage to get out so a big thank you to the owner and I deffo would come back loved every minute of it a great little cabin and picturesque.

We had such an amazing time here the cabin had everything we needed and made our stay in Wales very enjoyable. The games room and hot tub are also a very nice touch to which we enjoyed after going on long walks around the area. If myself and my partner were to be quite picky, we would make the following improvements A curtian over the front door window for privacy. possibly a taller fence on the rear of the hottub again for a little more privacy whilst enjoying the scenery and stars above. Ps. We did purchase a few washing up sponges and left them in the cupboard under the sink for other guests to use

Lovely break, hosts were very nice. Loved the cabin. Could not find any fault with, the only small thing would be the field behind was a bit messy.

Me and my fiancee had a great weekend , the property was clean and well maintained, a lovely place to be and a hot tub to top it all off , we will definitely have another stay there at some point in the future.

Had an amazing stay, quiet and tranquil, Evlyns cabin had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Welcome brownies were amazing, and the hot tub was perfect. Views were amazing from early morning through to the night. Star gazing is fab especially in the hot tub. Reccomend Evlyns Retreat to all romantic couples.

The cabin was beautiful, very comfy and well designed for a perfect stay. The games room was an added bonus which provided hours of entertainment. An excellent hot tub allowed star gazing whilst relaxing in the bubbles. The only reason we have not given 5 stars is due to the fact the cabin is so close to another accomodation. It's not truly secluded but that doesn't take away from the lovely experience we had. Sara and Evelyn were lovely, extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
