About Pen Y Gaer

Pen Y Gaer is a brick-built detached cottage on a working livestock farm near Llannefydd village in North Wales. Set 1 mile from Llannefydd and 5 miles from Denbigh, it sits in genuine seclusion with 360-degree views across the valley to the North Wales coast and mountains. This is proper countryside deer, red kites, buzzards and hares are regular visitors.

The setting is genuinely peaceful. No other houses in view. A two-acre paddock sits next door and the enclosed garden has a private 6-seater hot tub perfect for stargazing after a day out. Wildlife sightings from the garden include bats, owls and foxes after dark.

Three bedrooms sleep up to 6: a king-size double, a standard double and a single with pull-out trundle bed. There's a ground floor bathroom with double-ended bath plus a separate shower room. The sitting room has a woodburning stove with engineered oak flooring. The kitchen has an electric range cooker, dishwasher and washing machine.

Conwy Castle is around 25 miles away (35 mins). Llandudno seafront is 18 miles (30 mins). Zip World Velocity at Penrhyn Quarry is 28 miles (40 mins). Denbigh Castle is just 5 miles (12 mins).

Great location with magnificent views. The property had absolutely everything we needed for a brilliant holiday. The owner met us in the village and led us to the property and showed us around. The owner was very helpful and responsive. Would definitely consider booking again in the future.

Very pleased with our stay here! The host called us a few days before to arrange the details for the key pickup. He then met us on the day of arrival and guided us to the house as our sat nav got us a bit lost! The house itself was absolutely gorgeous! Even better than the pictures. A real homely feel and attention to detail was impecable. We were provided with absolutely everything we needed for our stay towels, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent, etc. The house is very isolated, at the end of a road with no other houses around. So you have this really peaceful atmosphere with INCREDIBLE views to wake up to every morning. The hot tub was also really enjoyable! The host himself was friendly and attentive. There was a storm on our first day of holiday and the internet was knocked out because of it. I messaged him and he was very quick to respond and sorted out a visit from open reach. Same with a fuse that had blown one day. We never got to the bottom of it, but he came out to have a look within minutes of me messaging him and then arranged an electrician to come have a look the following day. Overall finding this place made our trip so much more enjoyable! Would highly, highly recommend!

What a lovely house in a beautiful setting. We were looking for peace and tranquility, and we certainly found it at Pen y Gaer. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and the welcome pack was much appreciated. We enjoyed seeing several firework displays from our bedroom window on New Years Eve. This secluded cottage with stunning views is a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet we saw deer, rabbits and buzzards from the windows! . The everchanging views due to the weather constantly changing of hills, distant mountains as well as the sea, were delightful. There is everything you could need in the wellequipped cottage, and the hottub was just perfect especially on the day we came back from climbing Snowden. Whilst the small, winding roads to get to the property might be daunting for some, you do indeed soon get used to them and we had no problems in getting out for some wonderful days out in the local area including two of the local ZIP Worlds very exhilarating. We are quite selfsufficient but I got the impression that Dilwyn would have done anything to help if had needed any assistance. We had a delightful two weeks in this beautiful place. We would definitely consider coming back here one day in the future.

This cottage is the most fantastic cottage ever for those who want a break and to enjoy the absolute peace and quiet! The cottage is equipped with absolutely everything! The hot tub is the cherry on the cake! And the owner is the most helpful, happy, caring, and easy going man we've met! Coming for Gateshead to this secluded cottage in the quiet country side with sea view and glorious scenery was a massive treat! Just book it now.. You won't regret it!

This was a GREAT Place to stay, for us 3 generations. The Grand children could play in the field next to the property , on a slide, a swing or play swing ball. There was a Hot tub. to relax in. We also used the Barbeque a couple of times. There is a Hill fort, close by You can walk to. You can see the Sea from the front of the house, although it will take you about 25 to 30 minutes to drive there. While there we visited Rhyl, Conwy, Llandudno, Gwrych Castle and a Boat Trip over The Pontcysylite Aqueduct. We also had had a nice meal in The Hawk & Buckle Inn.

Property is in the middle of the country side with no other houses in view. A perfect location for peace and quiet. Waking up to the sounds of sheep, birds and bees every morning. The very narrow roads to get to the property are a bit daunting to begin with, but after a few days you get used to them. Every driver was friendly and patient when you had to reverse to the nearest passing point. House was fully equipped with everything you needed. With sky tv and apps available on the tv as well. Hot tube was clean, easy to use and great at night when looking at all the stars. A great base to start from when going out to visit near by towns and beaches. Definitely need a car to get about though. We managed to get a home delivery from tescos to stock up on some essentials on the day we arrived. Owners were friendly and helpful. They met us at the nearest village and showed us the way to the cottage. We had an amazing week, thank you.

We visited Colwyn Bay, Rhyl, Abergele and Llandudno during our stay and went for a wander around tweed mill which is a large shopping centre with 2 cafes. What a fantastic place to stay, the cottage was clean, cosy and brilliantly equipped for our family of five. We stayed the week before Christmas and Dilwyn and his wife had decorated the place beautifully. The Farmhouse is nicely furnished with quality fitments. My only negative is the fact that property is very remote. The narrow farm roads to get to property are not for the faint hearted. Potential holidaymakers do not know this, from just reading property advert and looking at the photographs. However we tried to enjoy our week at Pen Y Gaer as best as possible, and enjoyed the hot tub, looking out to the Welsh countryside. Thankyou to owner Dilwyn for all his help during the week.

The cottage was great, with all the amineties you would like. If you plan to cook, would probably be a good idea to bring knives and a board. The beds a pretty comfortable. The owners were so lovely, really accommodating the cottage was comfortable. We were with a toddler so having to travel in lanes 15 minutes to get to a main road was a little tricky but they were amazing having a highchair, gate and travel cot. They even had some nice outdoors toys. The hot tub was a really nice addition to star gaze at night.

Perfect location. A challenge to get to, but that is the charm and host came to meet us on the first day. So quiet and perfect for our granddaughter. The sea views were amazing. Definitely follow the advice from the host about the directions. Sat navs seem addicted to tiny roads, but the hosts travel tips take you on a slightly longer, but definitely easier route. Lots of thoughtful ideas and tips.

We had an amazing week at Pen Y Gaer. Everything we could think of was available from cafeteria to washing up liquid. The cottage was in a very quiet area and we enjoyed the relaxation as well as the fact it was close enough for us to visit Anglesey as well as lots of costal towns. Two of us stayed at Pen Y Gaer for 3 nights and it was a wonderful relaxing short break. The cottage is a quiet retreat, private and secluded. Well equipped and wonderfully comfortable with the added bonus of the hot tub. The owners Dilwyn and Manon are lovely people who are so friendly and nice, who go out of their way to help and make you feel at home. We are definitely going to go back but stay longer next time. If youre looking for a great place to unwind and relax then this is the place for you. It one of the best holiday retreats we have been to and you will not be disappointed. I cant thank Dilwyn and Manon enough for such a fantastic stay.

Absolutely lovely property with stunning views all around. If youre looking to get away from it all, then I would highly recommend staying here. The owner, Dilwyn, was a great host. Met us in the village to drive us to the property, as driving directly to it using a sat nav would take us down a difficult road. House was lovely and cosy, had everything we needed for our two day break. The owners left us some cakes and milk in the fridge, as well as other essentials such as tea bags and sugar. The wifi was very good, considering we were in such a rural location. Handy to have sky sports and netflix etc. Hot tub was great, lovely to relax in after a busy day exploring. The location is very rural, but supermarkets and restaurants available within a ten min drive. As Dilwyn the host suggested, always use the sat nav to get to Henllan village first, and then to the cottage so as to avoid the very narrow road. Had a lovely weeks stay at this beautiful home. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Our twins enjoyed the garden and the ride on toys. We really appreciated Dilwyn meeting us in the village as it's tricky to find, but once you know, you know! Unfortunately, the location meant our ASDA delivery did not make it but there are several supermarkets just a drive away. The quiet secluded location was a perfect get away from our busy lives and the hot tub was a blessing. We managed to spot plenty of wildlife during our stay too, even one morning spotted a fox bouncing on the hot tub lid!! Highly recommended, the photos do not do this place justice.

Stunning cottage, views you could only dream of and the owners are lovely. The home was clean and had everything you needed. Hot tub was lovely to relax in after a day out with the children.

We had a brilliant weeks stay here but sadly it just wasn't long enough. Every last attention to detail was taken care of. There were plenty of toys provided for our 2 and a half year old granddaughter and even a nappy bin which was very useful with a 4 month old baby. Stair gates and travel cots provided also meant we didn't have to worry about accidents or bringing these items from home. Having a washer & dryer meant we didn't have mountains of washing to do at home after our holiday. The house is very clean and homely and in a perfect secluded spot, yet the coast and plenty of other attractions were very easily accessible by car. The hot tub was absolutely amazing and used every day for relaxing and star gazing in the evenings. We had a fantastic time and were spoilt by the all round views of rolling countryside. What a beautiful retreat, needless to say we have already booked for next year.

Wow, what a beautiful place to escape to! The views are incredible and span almost the full 360 degrees. An extremely secluded spot too with little light pollution for star gazing from the hot tub. The owners have provided everything you could need to have a fantastic stay. We'll definitely be back!

A group of five of us came to the cottage a few weeks ago. This is hands down the best cottage we have been to, and we have been to a fair few recently. We absolutely loved the fact there was no neighbours surrounding you at all. You didn't have to worry about the noise what so ever. The hosts were absolutely lovely in showing us to the cottage and were there on hand if we ever needed anything. The hot tub was insane, nice and hot when we arrived. We were left some biscuits and other essentials and this was a lovely touch. We will one million percent be coming back in the coming month or so and will struggle to go anywhere else now. We got a great deal booking last minute and it was genuinely worth every penny. We all cannot wait to come again!
