Hillfort Reviews

We loved our stay in the Hillfort apartment, at Three Pigeons. Nik and his partner were really welcoming and friendly. Flat was lovely and clean, warm and comfortable. Countryside was gorgeous. We were lucky with great weather. We also enjoyed hanging out in the pub and playing games in the evening. Shame they no longer do food in the pub, but it was no problem for us with our self catering flat upstairs. Only thing to be aware of is that the flat has a lot of low ceilings, so not good for very tall people.
Great little place to stay for the week will come again
This is a great apartment in a beautiful part of Wales. Fabulous walks straight from the doorstep. The pub downstairs is an extra bonus. We keep on coming back! Thanks again for hosting us.
Robert
Christmas Day, no hot water at 4 pm. We did phone but we waited an hour and a half for hot water. Same on Boxing Day. We waited on Christmas Eve, 5 pm on the dot, to check in. No warm welcome just told the pub was closed over the holidays. Radiators were connected to the pub, no heating, just electric heaters switched off after two hours.
Gareth
Just had a lovely week here, Julia and Nik are fantastic hosts and attentive. Monday night bingo is not to be missed if you stay here and provided us with plenty of laughs. The accomodation was ample for 3 of us and sharing a bathroom wasn't difficult. I wish I could add pictures to show the beautiful sunsets we captured.
Nice people who own it very clean place everything we needed was there lovely views and peaceful
Jackie
Had a great few days here. The apartment had everything I needed and was comfortable and clean. Great nights sleep, water pressure on the shower was brilliant with loads of hot water, wifi excellent. Lovely view from the balcony pity the weather wasn't better to sit out more than I did. As a lone female traveller it was nice to know that the hosts were close by and very responsive, also enjoyed sitting downstairs in the bar having a few laughs, made to feel welcome by the locals and hosts. Nik & Julia are great hosts and were very proactive dealing with a small issue on my first night. Thanks again guys!
Victoria
Well located in rural area, peaceful surroundings for a long weekend. The only issue being 5 adults sharing the bathroom. Disappointed that we just managed to enter the historic oldie pub at the weekend, as it was closed mid week.
Catherine
The host was really friendly on arrival, the apartment was spotless and comfy and had everything we could need and was so peaceful. The views from the balcony were lovely and we enjoyed sitting out there. We will definitely be returning.
Nik was a fantastic host and whole experience from checking in to checking out was seamless. Flat was comfy and a perfect base from which to explore the area. Having a pub downstairs was a definite bonus!
Vibhav
Its an amazing place to stay with young kids and toddlers. The scenery is great, apartment size is generous and kitchen is well equipped for people who like to cook their meals on holiday. Host Nik is amazing and had things sorted for us quickly. Only downside is it is a bit far from Snowdonia, but if you dont mind and hours drive then it is a great option. We shall be booking again when we get a chance.
Graham
Only stayed one night due to illness. Great location, nice views, pub downstairs. Food weekends only. Facilities OK, but as roof space conversion, beams a nuisance and need cushioning. Banged head 3 times in one day.
Jacqueline
Hillfort is an amazing apartment with fabulous views of the Welsh countryside. There is nothing more welcoming than the sounds of nature to wake too. We didn't want to leave. It was an ideal location for us. Very few people, lots of trails and pathways to explore and as bird watchers, we were able to sitcom the balcony and watch the Ravens and buzzards overhead. Nick and Julie were wonderful hosts, can't wait to book again.
Sergio
Todo perfecto, Nick un gusto de anfitrin. La zona, espectacular, y el apartamento tiene todo lo necesario para disfrutar unos das all y disfrutar mucho.
The apartment was clean, spacious and well equipped and was in a very peaceful location. The views from the balcony were beautiful and it was easy to access all the attractions in the area!
Nick the owner is nice and a great character. It was very peaceful with lovely views thank you
Elliott
Great. Stay Enjoy a pint with host. Really nice person Definitely will recommend and Definitely will go again. Cheers keith
Lovely apartment and great value. Nik was very helpful throughout the stay. Just what we needed for a great short break away. The sofa and beds were as per the property description. We really enjoyed our time over this way and would love to be back again soon
Myself and my husband stayed with our two year old son for five nights, Monday Friday. The apartment is much bigger than we expected, and provided everything that we needed for our stay. It was spotlessly clean, and had a shared balcony with the apartment next door. The views were stunning, perfect for watching the sunset see my TripAdvisor review for some pics. Ovenmicrowavecutlery ect. Were provided. We always take extra bits with us, as we like to cook as well as eat out. However, there is a local Tesco and other conscience shops in Ruthin if you forget things. The apartment is perfectly located for a number of national trust walks, and is a scenic drive to Chester zooCheshire Oaks. We like to get out and about now we have a son, but in all honesty if we were here 'childfree' we probably wouldn't have left often... especially when the pub below is open! Nik and Julia the owners are lovely, welcoming and made us feel welcomed and comfortable. Our son was let to roam around the pub, whilst my husband enjoyed a gluten free beer. After contacting Nik about my husbands coeliac disease before our arrival, gluten free beers were waiting for him in the pub. Which was perfect! The owners were easily contactable, but let you get on with your stay. That's how we like it! We enjoyed our stay, and would return 100. As soon as I have given birth, we are going to look at our calendar and book again! Thanks Nik & Julia. Xx
Patrick
Ideal for a couple perhaps with young children. Wonderful views. Good pub with excellent German themed food. Well stocked kitchen easy to use oven.
The hosts were amazing. Very warm and welcoming. The accommodation was exactly as described. The views were amazing. It was our first time in wales and wow what an experience. Thankyou so much.
This is our second visit to Hilfort and we have had a lovely time again. Nik and his family are on hand if we needed anything and the pub downstairs serves good food. The cottage has everything we need and is a good base for visiting the local area
The apartment suited our purpose. We were there for 2 nights and the hosts were amazing and so friendly. They go out of their way to help you and make you feel very welcome. Unfortunately we cannot comment on the food since the restaurant was closed due to staff shortages how ever I was aware of this before I booked since I had already had a telephone conversation with Nik the landlord. The landscape surrounding the public house is beautiful and it was so nice to be awoken by the sounds of birds chirping. If you wish to be in a noisy, loud music playing, pool tabled pub this is not for you. This is a lovely traditional pub where you can spend quality time. The apartment is well equipped for everything you would need. Please take enough supplies for a whole weekend since we found that the shops were shut from 1200 noon on Saturday and that included Ruthin. You have to expect this in many areas of Wales. I will go again in the future even if just to taste the food once the restaurant is open again. Many thanks to the hosts. We wish you all the success for the future.
We stayed at Hilllfort for a week. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had all the equipment we needed. The pub downstairs served good food and did not disturb us at all.
Melanie
We had a really lovely stay at Hillfort. The location was perfect for exploring the areas in North Wales that we wanted. The accommodation was well equipped and perfect for our needs. The hosts Nik and Julie were welcoming and there if we needed anything. We ate in the Three Pigeons Inn a couple of times and found the food delicious, freshly cooked and filling! Overall, very satisfied.
Lovely little place with great walks from the doorstep. Friendly pub downstairs was a bonus too. We had great time, will come back. Thanks Nick and Julia!
Kenneth
A comfortable and well appointed apartment with fabulous views, the owner team was very helpful and their food excellent in the pub below. we would not hesitate to go again as we enjoyed our stay
Sylvia
The property was spotlessly clean. The kitchen had everything you could wish for. The bed was comfortable. Couldnt fault it. The owners Nic and Julia were lovely ,warm and welcoming. We will definitely stay here again
The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and if we needed anythink was at hand to help. The views from the property were amazing and even thought base above a pub there was very little noise. The property was very clean and very well equipped with the essentials. Also food from the pub was amazing and great value for money.
Lovely place, very peaceful, clean flat, comfortable beds, very nice stay Thank you
Bhavesh
Brilliant place and location. Owners Nick and Julie made us feel so welcome, was like going from home to home. 5 star food, hats off to the chef and the pub, wide ranges of drinks for all, children and dog friendly. Had a smashing time there with my family with loads to do and places to see. Lovely accommodation with 3 rooms. Cant wait to go back. Overall from score from the Patel family 100100.
Fantastic apartment. Clean well equipped.Homely. Ideal rural location with scenic views. Plenty of sightseeing within an hours drive away. Friendly landlords.Would definitely recommend. Thank you
Absolutely lovely place to stay, highly recommended! ! Clean as a whistle with everything needed and more. Gorgeous views are provided out on a private shared balcony where you can watch the sun go down. We thoroughly enjoyed the convenience of having a lovely welcoming village pub so close to the apartment for some well priced refreshments after a long day. The apartment is well sized and provides all your home comforts, the owners are very friendly and are literally a stone throw away if you need any help with anything. If you want a relaxing place to stay which is also in reach of all that Wales has to offer do not over look this place. Absolutely fabulous we will definitely return.
Christine
